It’s another installment of our fantabulous Garden Designers’ Roundtable this month, and we’re all a flutter about small spaces! Why? Well, why not? So many people are doing the urban thing and downsizing to condos and lofts, so they’re gardening on a patio, balcony or a rooftop. But even those of us that have standard to large suburban lots likely have some small spaces that could use some help–think decks or side patios or even courtyards.
So we’re here to help you, and today my help will come not in the form of written word but of video! Several weeks ago, I stopped by the KLRU studio of the Central Texas Gardener to tape an episode about small space gardening with Tom Spencer. We had a great time talking about all of the elements that go into planning a successful small garden space, and the accompanying pics are of my own balcony and my client/friend, Kellie’s, patio. I hope you enjoy the video and pick up some ideas for your own space! And, if you need help, for goodness sakes’, call me!

Jenny, you are a pro at TV appearances. You looked great, and I loved your ideas. Way to go!
Thanks, Pam! I’m looking forward to seeing YOU on CTG!
It was great having you! And thanks for all the super pictures.
Wow, this is great! Wonderful interview, you cover everything! You are a natural on video and are VERY good at keeping your hands quiet and relaxed (I notice the strangest things!) Thanks for sharing!!
Loved your appearance on the show Jenny. You are a good communicator, have great advice to share and you look marvelous!
Triple Threat Jenny!
Shirley
I’m so proud of you Jenny! You’re amazing at appearing calm and collected on video while communicating so much information in a light and easy manner. Hooray!!
Great program, Jenny! The zip-lock ties tip was worth the price of admission, for sure. Glad to see you will be doing more videos—you have a calm, professional manner and a great voice (and it’s OK to smile!) Bravo!
Thanks, everybody! Everybody at Central Texas Gardener makes you look like a rock star–they are all so GOOD at their jobs that you feel amazing when you’re there.
Can’t wait to get home tonight and read everyone else’s posts!
You have got some serious star quality going on! Nice job!
I am finally getting a chance to see this, Jenny, and echo everything that’s been said already. You are a natural. You completely disarmed the interviewer with your knowledge and grace. Very well done. You should have your own show!
Thanks for a very entertaining video and lots of good tips. We are not hugely familiar with polypropelene rugs over here in the UK, but we are sure going to search through some catalogues to find some now!
Best wishes, Lesley and Robert
Jenny,
How creative to do a video. Now I can actually connect a “person” to a name!
That’s an interesting way to look at a small space/balcony…treating it like an indoor space with such things as rugs. Btw, I loved that rug.
(I also liked that crackle glass votive for lighting!)
You really had a lot of interesting ways of designing a balcony. Thanks for an interesting “post”! You were a natural.
Great video, Jenny with many outstanding ideas. Don’t know if I would be so calm and collected. That charming Texas accent wasn’t bad either
Just to add to what Lesley has said above:
Congrats on doing that film approach to the subject. SO COOL!
Heaps of good advice there about how to max balcony life.
But your presentation was just so good.
Well done
Best Wishes
Robert
Thank you , everyone, for your kind words and great feedback! And, just so you all know–I just picked up a little courtyard design yesterday, and I’m going over all the other great GDRT posts again today for inspiration! You all are the best.
Do I have a Texas accent? Really? Not like some! ; )
