Shadow Play

There are parts of every garden that are obviously, immediately noticeable–things that elicit an involuntary “ooh” or “ah.” The flower colors! The sweeping lines of that bed, the textures in that plant grouping! But stay in a garden a little longer and subtle details start to emerge…like light and the shadows it creates. I really love how you’re forced to slow down in order to appreciate these small details…and really, isn’t that what gardening is in part about? Not only creating but enjoying the simple beauty of what has been created–and shadows are those wonderful, elusive things that are created briefly at just the right time of day.An open work fence imposed on pavers and gravel. Agave americana and miscanthus sinensis backlit in a courtyard. The lacy design of a patio chair on rockwork.Sunlight on greens.Lit-up agave.Agave on a stucco wall.

Sometimes the most beautiful things are the simplest. Take a  moment to notice the beauty you’ve helped create in your space!

Nice! Especially love the river of Mexican pebble breaking the geometry in the first picture.
