Blog Action Day Roundup

This past October 15 we celebrated another Blog Action Day–when the world’s bloggers unite around one topic to further communication and information. The topic this year? Water. Water conservation, water cleanliness, water for a healthy lifestyle, water as it relates to peace issues, you name it, people blogged on it! Since I’m a garden blogger, this issue was a no-brainer for me and many of my cohorts, so I wanted to lift up other writers’ thoughts to you today. Most of these people/blogs I’m very familiar with, others are new to me, but all are informative and engaging! I hope you agree. Take a few minutes to read some of these posts about an issue that is of the upmost importance to all of us everywhere:

Rebecca Sweet– Rebecca’s blog is Gossip in the Garden, and she writes about creating a low-water usage meadow garden. I’ve seen Rebecca’s work and it’s incredible, so you’ll find some great info there for sure! Follow Rebecca on twitter @sweetrebecca

Ivette Soler–Ivette is passionate about reducing/eliminating lawns in order to conserve water and reclaim our landscapes, so her post on her blog The Germinatrix will give you a lot to think about. Follow her on twitter @thegerminatrix

Helen Yoest–Helen’s a field editor for Better Homes and Gardens and owns Gardening with Confidence, so this is a girl who knows what she’s talking about! Helen offers great tips on being water wise. Follow her on twitter @HelenYoest

Pam Farley–Pam’s a popular blogger with her site Brown Thumb Mama and you’ll like her ideas on how to save water. Pam’s on twitter @brownthumbmama

Tom Murphy– Tom’s blog A View From the Cave is new to me, but I ran across his post when I was running a twitter search on Blog Action Day. Tom offers a unique perspective on what it takes to collect clean water while living in Kenya. Tom’s on twitter @viewfromthecave

Michelle Derviss–Michelle is a renowned landscape designer and blogs at Garden Porn (imagine what popped up when I forgot it’s at deviantdeziner.blogspot.com and instead typed in gardenporn.com!)–she posts about how to save water in your landscape.

Susan L. Morrison–Another one of my beloved CA landscape designer clan, Susan writes at Blue Planet Garden Blog. She offers some valuable thoughts on protecting our watersheds, so be sure to check it out! Follow Susan on twitter @susanlmorrison

Susan Cohan–Susan’s a talented landscape designer who blogs at Miss Rumphius’ Rules, and she posted about drinking water via several short videos. Great approach & interesting information, Susan!  Follow her on twitter @susancohan

Amanda Kloer–Amanda wrote an incredible article on Change.org connecting clean water shortages with human rights issues. This is a must-read!

Let me–or more importantly, the individual bloggers–know what you think and leave a comment. You can read my own post on Top 10 Water Tips here. And please, if you’ve run across any other water posts on Blog Action Day, let us know about it! I’m happy to pass them on. Now, go forth, educate yourselves and conserve!

Jenny – thanks for the shout-out, and I’m honored to be grouped with such talented bloggers. I really appreciate you showing us some that we’re not familiar with, too! Watching the effort Tom had to go through to get his daily water in Kenya is amazing, and something we all tend to take for granted.

I know, isn’t it incredible? I also was blown away by how many different perspectives on water that bloggers can take; it really was a pleasure pulling these very unique but unified posts together!

Just came across this mention of me in regards to Blog Action Day. Although quite belated, thank you for the mention. I really appreciate it.
